Railway

Our track gauge is 10.25” laid with 9lbs rail fixed to wooden sleepers with PNP track fastenings. In the station where locos stand home made pre-cast concrete sleepers are used.

All trains start from and return to Stopham Road Station. You can buy your tickets there as well as souvenirs of your visit.

The railway runs through the garden centre for almost a mile. The track winds back and forth and climbs a 1 in 48 gradient on the way.  See the Route page for a full description

Rolling Stock

The Railway owns two covered coaches and a Queen Mary brake van. In addition members individually own two open coaches built by Mardyke, three wooden bodied coaches, known as the Uppingham set and the Tiny Tots coach. A member is building a brake composite covered coach to match the existing ones and another member is building a brake composite coach to match his Mardyke ones. The Railway also owns two sit-astride coaches which were the mainstay of services initially but which are little used now. There are also a mini brake van, two tipper wagons and an open wagon.
